Update: Screenings, David Rees 16-February-2006

Screenings Update

This weekend Disarm director Brian Liu is in Missoula, Montana attending the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival where our documentary screens today (Thurs. 16 Feb). He’ll also be speaking on Sunday afternoon in a panel discussing social issue documentaries in an entertainment-driven market. Big Sky is a relatively new film fest. initiated by Montana-based filmmakers. Check out this news item in New West, which also includes an downloadable interview with Brian.

Disarm is scheduled to tour New Zealand (Akld, Wgtn, Chch, and Dunedin) in March/April as part of the New Zealand Film Festival’s World Cinema Showcase. Screening dates will be listed on our website as soon as they are available, so please check back regularly. Mary cannot be there as she is on sabbatical in snowy Norway. Check out her blog.

Disarm has been accepted into the River Run International Film Festival, which takes place in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from March 16-19. This will be the film’s “Southern Premiere” and we are hoping Brian will also be able to represent! Disarm is tentatively down to screen Saturday 18 March, but this is still to be confirmed.

We’re thrilled that nationally acclaimed Rolling Stone cartoonist David Rees is incorporating excerpts from Disarm into his speaking engagements to audiences across the country. All author royalties from his two books “Get Your War On” and “Get Your War On II” are being donated to Team 5 at the Mine Detection & Dog Center. Our good friend Sohrab Hakimi runs this agency and also chairs of the Afghan Campaign to Ban Landmines. Check out some photographs of the team complete with typically hilarious captions by Rees on his website.

Unfortunately, we were not able to attend the European debut of Disarm at the 29th Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden last month due to the tragedy involving Brian’s father, but understand the (3) screenings went well. We’re grateful to local campaign SPAS put together a nice seminar on the issue.

That’s it for February. Please get in touch is you’re interested in helping screen Disarm – we want our film to be seen by as many people as possible! Thanks for your interest and support.
